Scouts and Guides
Stoneleigh (St John’s) Scout and Guide Headquarters (to give it its formal name), was built in 1957 after more than ten years of fundraising by the parents and supporters of the Scout and Guide units of the area. At the time the building cost some £3,850, around half our current annual maintenance budget!

Today the building is home to the 2nd Stoneleigh Scout Group (Scouts, Cubs and Beavers) the 1st Stoneleigh Rainbows, the 1st and 5th Stoneleigh Brownies, and the 1st Stoneleigh Guides.

Beaver Scouts are the youngest section in The Scout Association and are aged 6 –8 years old. The Beaver Scouts meet in Colonies of between 12 -24. Beaver Scouts have lots of fun doing different activities which include making things, going on visits, making friends and doing badges.

Cub Scouts are Boys and Girls aged 8 to 10. They meet in a Cub Pack and have lots of fun. At Cubs you can try lots of fun activities like going on trips and making things. The Scout Section is for young people, usually aged between 10½ and 14 years. A young person can come in to the Troop at 10 and may stay until they are 15 years old. The Scout Troop is the third and final Section in the Scout Group.

Rainbow Guides are the youngest members of Girlguiding UK and aged between five and seven. Next we have Brownies who are aged between seven and ten, although some Brownies stay in the unit until they are a little bit older.

At 10 the young people move on to Guides where they develop their confidence further and work largely by themselves using their own ideas and resources. By the time they reach 14½ it’s time to consider the Senior Section – unfortunately our Ranger Unit no longer meets so these needs have to be met elsewhere.

Finally, but by no means least, we have our Adult Leaders who work directly with the young people to run the individual units. Adult Leaders will take Girlguiding UK or the Scout Association’s Leadership Qualification. There are also opportunities for regular helpers at most units. Why not get in touch by email for an informal chat and see what we can offer you at Dell Lane?
